Colorado Shooting: The Shooter did it with ‘Calculation and Deliberation’
The Colorado shooting incident has been considered as one of the most vicious and horrendous massacres happened in USA. The incident took place on July 20, when a gunman entered the movie theater at Aurora, Colo., during the show of the new Batman movie ‘The Dark Knight Rises’, released a gas canister and opened fire at the audience. The shooting rampage killed 12 people and left another 58 injured. The killer was packed with nearly 6,000 rounds of ammunition that could be shot up to 50 per minute.
Police has identified James Holmes, who previously worked as a summer camp counselor for the underprivileged children, as the suspected murderer. The Aurora police department also suspected the involvement of a second person in this matter but they found no solid evidence of that individual’s association with this crime. However, the police was sure that the shooting was not a momentum of madness but the shooter had planned for it with calculation and deliberation.
Police also traced Holmes’ apartment that was booby trapped with explosives. The officials successfully removed all the explosives from his apartment on Saturday. Cassidee Carlson, the police Sgt. of Aurora, said that the booby trap was set to kill the first person trying to open the door of the apartment. Fortunately, no official was injured during the explosives elimination process. Dan Oates, the chief of police, expressed anger at the fact that the trap was especially meant for killing any police officer trying to open the door.
For disarming and diffusing of major threats and for collecting evidence, Police used a robot. The police still do not know what is exactly inside the apartment, as they could not enter it yet.
Jordan Crofter, a survivor of the shooting, said that the shooter looked like an assassin ready to go to war. He was clad like the Joker, the character in the Batman movies, and armed with a semi-automatic rifle, a pistol, and a shotgun. The spectators said that the shooter especially targeted those who tried to flee. The police responded quickly to the emergency call and took control over the situation. They caught Holmes from the parking lot. He is now in the police custody.
No motive was found behind this attack and the FBI confirmed that he was not associated with any terrorist groups.
The new Batman movie was released worldwide on Friday. The officials cancelled the red carpet premiere in Paris after the shooting incident. Christopher Nolan, the director of the movie, expressed his profound grief on behalf of the crew and cast. Actor Christian Bale also showed his empathy to the closed ones of the victims.
People who knew Holmes described him as a shy and intelligent person and his family to be a very nice one. His family was also upset and taken aback at this incident.
The initial hearing of this case was scheduled on Monday.
