Cubao Expo : Romancing music, arts, and culture.
Amidst all the shiny and shimmery things, there will always be those simple yet hidden gems that stay in the background. With all the fanciness, glitter, and glamour that places and people choose these days, there will always be those ruggedly messy and rundown places that are rare and not to be forgotten. If you haven’t been to Cubao Expo in Quezon City, I can’t emphasize enough that you must visit the place.
If you’re the very much sophisticated and chic type, Cubao Expo also known as Cubao X might just surprise you… but in a good way. This beautifully bohemian-bringing haven is composed of whimsical and mind blowing galleries, restaurants that will charm you off your feet, novelty shops that have rare and passionately created products, and events that will keep you awake all day and night. If you’re looking for a photographer, painter, artist, filmmaker, musician, a curious tourist, or any one who appreciates the beauty of art and aesthetics, head along to General Romulo Street in Cubao, and prepare to be romanced by everything in it and everything about it.
Formerly known to be the Marikina Shoe Expo, this place delights itself in still a very vintage feel. Transformed and set up by Bujim Aquino, the place radiates with so much culture making you feel as if you are part of something radiant and beautiful. The word here is energy: whether you’re quietly dining at Bellini’s Ristorante Italiano known for its real Italian meals or preparing what you have to wear at Stoic shop, you know you’re sharing the same energy; the same vibrance; the same connection with all the people there. Or, if you’re more of a Filipino cuisine fan, Allan’s Grill could be the place for you. Full and satisfied with your meal? Head on to something for your own room! A particular area you would want to bask in is the quaint and adorably cute Heima Store.
Just on the ground floor of Shop 33 you will see furniture, accessories, art, and other items that you would just want to take home. Whether it’s a cozy chair or a chic tote bag, Heima is about the lifestyle that captures your heart; Heima is your home. If you want personalized and other quirkier accessories and items, The Reading Room, I Love You Store, and Oohwables will win you over. Fan of vinyl? Old’s Cool, Karma and Vintage Pop, and Heritage will take you back to the older times. If you wish to lose yourself in indie music, Genre Bar, just above Alan’s Grill, awaits. If you wish to set your eyes on art, art and more art: Heriate, White Box, Black Soup and Pablo showcase exhibits on a daily basis.
You just can’t miss that! Another thing you have to put down in your calendar is the well-known Meiday! Meiday!, a music concert that showcases the best Pinoy and indie bands with freeflowing drinks and unbelievable energy. Again, wherever you are in the area, it’s the energy that keeps them going. Other stores are Rags2Riches (high-end designer pieces that are eco-friendly), The Junkie Shop, Kebab X Restaurant, bazaars, garage sales, and festivals. There are many more you just have to see!
Amidst all the shine and shimmer, there is a hip and laid back place where you can simply fall in love again and again and again.
