Hines Ward Retires After 14 Years with Steelers

Hines Ward retires after 14 season in the NFL with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He promised James Harrison he wouldn’t cry at the press conference, but the wide receiver quickly became emotional as he addressed fans and thanked them all for their support during his career.

Hines Ward Retirement rumors swirled for weeks whether he or he would not continue playing in the NFL. But on Tuesday when the Steelers announced a press conference featuring Ward, it was clear that the former “Dancing With The Stars Season 12″ winner will announce that he would retire as a Pittsburgh Steeler.

Hines Ward retires from football three weeks after he was released by his team during salary cap negotiations. The longtime Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver has been at the top of his game, winning two Super Bowls and being named MVP of Super Bowl XL.

During Hines Ward Retirement press conference he said:

“I just want to grant Steeler Nation it’s one last request. So today, I’m officially retiring as a Pittsburgh Steeler”. He joked that over the past few weeks, he’d heard rumors about him going to the Dolphins, the Cardinals, and even the Ravens. “I won’t ever sign with the Ravens. I just couldn’t fathom myself putting on another uniform”.

He then added, “For me it’s not worth going out and playing 1 or 2 years for another organization. All in all, I can say that I’m a Steeler for life”.

Hines Ward, 36, owns Steelers’ records with 1,000 receptions, 12,083 receiving yards and 85 receiving touchdowns. The 1,000 catches represent the eighth-best all-time total in the NFL. He was a third-round pick by Pittsburgh in the 1998 draft and spent his entire career with the Steelers.

He helped Pittsburgh to championships in Super Bowl XL and Super Bowl XLIII. He was voted the most valuable player in Super Bowl XL when he had five receptions for 123 yards and a touchdown in a 21-20 win over the Seattle Seahawks.
