SAG Awards: 'Argo,' 'Lincoln' stand tall
Anne Hathaway, Jennifer Lawrence, and Daniel Day-Lewis could have now hoped for major awards this season as the trio kept up the success of their Golden Globe wins by winning the Screen Actors Guild Awards. The Sunday’s event was the 19th annual one of the Awards ceremony.
Hathaway won the award for paying the role of a dedicated mother in the musical ‘Les Miserables’. She was excited after receiving the award in the category of supporting female actor.
Jennifer Lawrence, the star from ‘Silver Linings Playbook’, also made bright her chance for winning the Oscar for lead female role by grabbing a SAG award. She said it to be incredible feelings.
On the other hand, Day-Lewis won the award by portraying the role of Abraham Lincoln in the movie ‘Lincoln’. He sounded humble in his acceptance speech and said the award to be an ensemble one.
The SAG Awards are given considering the acting only while other awards including the Oscars are more all-encircling in giving awards to the best of TV and movies. Even the trophy handed over by the SAG authority is known as ‘The Actor’.
‘Argo’ received an SAG award in the category of outstanding cast. The movie has promptly become a favorite by winning a SAG following a Golden Globe. The actor and director of the movie Ben Affleck said that he just could not believe that he was standing on the same stage where Day-Lewis was.
The trophy for the supporting male actor was earned by Tommy Lee Jones by portraying the role of Thaddeus Stevens, the assassinator of Lincoln.
On the TV sector, the award for the best male actor was garnered by Bryan Cranston for portraying a drug kingpin in ‘Breaking Bad’. On the acceptance speech, he showed his gratitude to Vince Gilligan, the creator of the series.
On the other hand, Claire Danes won the lead female role award for her role as a CIA analyst in ‘Homeland’. She also won the Golden Globe award for the same role.
‘Downton Abbey’ garnered the award for the best drama series. Alec Baldwin and Tina Fey won the awards for the best male and female actor in a comic role. They act in the comedy series ’30 Rock’. It was Baldwin’s eighth award for playing the role of Jack Donaghy in the series.
Comedy series ‘Modern Family’ won award for the best cast. Kevin Costner and Julianne Moore won the awards for the best male and female lead in the categories for TV miniseries or movie.
